You’re so right. The Twilight thing got out of hand as it is. People just need to get over themselves. Bella got with Edward. Katniss gets with Peeta. Peeta was better for her in the end just like she said the last thing she needed was more fire. Please give Katniss the respect she deserves as the main character and dont question her choice. You can admit Gale is an interesting character and has good qualities too but dont go all ‘oh she should’ve stayed with Gale’ respect Katniss, respect the author. No! Suzanne Collins obviously did NOT know what she was doing because Gale is so in love with her, and she also loves him. She loves Peeta as well, but he has to learn to love her back! Gale was there from the start, and they were always meant to be together! I <3 gale!
obviously she did know what she was doing since she is the author. peeta was there from the start too, he loved her since he was five years old, he just never got the courage to tell her. he didn’t have to ‘learn to love her back’, he just had a relapse when the capitol brainwashed him. he always loved her. she did love gale, but i don’t think it was ever in such a romantic way.

I was Team Gale at first, but as I thought about it, I became Team Peeta. Especially after what happened at the end of Mockingjay! That was just terrible! I’m so sad because Ms. Collins made me hate Gale! I’m still Team Peeta, though

Thats what frustrated me about Twilight too with the whole hot Jacob thing. Too bad that’s what so many girls are going for these days. Congrats for being team peeta because it’s who she really loved in the end. Echo the dont start another Twilight! (but fearing it’s inevitable either way)
i really don’t know which to choose. i can see the appeal in both. Gale is a total bad-ass, hot, and he’s got the whole “tall, dark, and handsome” thing going but at the same time i hate his personality. the survival of the fittest type. i mean, i get it, you’re starving almost every day, but don’t hate on others just because they’re more fortunate! i also think he’s a little stuck up.
now onto Peeta, my dear little bread boy that i’m totally in love with (i know i said i don’t know which to choose, but i’m just saying i can see both sides) I think gale would probably be waaaaaaay hotter than Peeta, but i’m just saying that because i’m not into blonds. Peeta is kind and sensitive and a really good guy. BUT he’s also clueless. and not very good at being stealthy in the woods.
soooo yeah, if i was given the choice i would most likely choose Peeta. (man this s long, sorry. i just had a lot to say! oh! and one more thing. if they put ANYONE from twilight in the hunger games move i swear i WILL kill someone. preferably the person who made that retarded decision.)
So totally on Team Peeta! Peeta is really in love with Katniss, but so is Gale. It was a big thing, but Katniss chose she could not survive without Peeta. Team Gale all the way!!!!!! I’m sorry to Peeta fans, but I hated him from the first moment. He was always saying the best things at times when they didn’t need them and the worst when they did. I also hold firm belief that the death of most of the characters started with Katniss trying to save Peeta in the first games. I wanted to scream at Suzanne Collins at the end of Mockingjay! Gale is Katniss’ lifetime friend. If Peeta hadn’t gotten in the way of that, the series would’ve been perfect. I loved the books up until Gale left and wasn’t talked about in the epilogue. Curse you Suzanne Collins! P.S. Peeta should’ve died! P. P. S. Rue, Prim, RIP. I will love you forever!

The whole “team” stuff just seems to be inevitable when it comes to YA love triangles. Totally stupid if you ask me but what can you do about it? But, since we are choosing sides, I’m going to confess that I have been Team Peeta ever since I read that Peeta took a beating from his mother for Katniss. That takes so much love for somebody. Plus I always kinda pictured Peeta having brown hair and Gale being like dirty blonde (I don’t know why, it just made more sense it my head!) But Gale was an amazing character and I kinda pictures him being with Madge, the Mayor’s daughter. But I would have been fine if Katniss chose Gale because then I could have pictured Peeta falling in love with me!!!!! (yes I’m aware I’m a dork!)
Oh, puh-lease. They’re both hotties, They’re both cute and carring and sweet, and now you want to choose between them? You know what?! I’m choosing BOTH!!!

This was an interesting and funny debate to read. Thank you! Personally, I’ve never really understood the whole “team” thing, since it’s fairly clear from the beginning who will end up with whom at the end. Peeta’s definitely the one for Katniss, and I don’t see him as a wimp at all.
I totally second that. I never understood the point of Teams when it should only ever be the author’s decision of which characters will end up together or not. I think it’s disrespectful to go against what happens in the book because that just makes it come across that the author is wrong about her own characters.

I have to admit, I was a little unsure of the two and which one to pick. Though I did have a certain attachment to Peeta because his personatily is VERY similar my best friend. It wasn’t until the third book that I realized how much prefered Peeta. I was yearning for just the slightest mention of his name. Peeta will forever be the one for Katniss. Even though Gale is amazing, it is Peeta who will always be her boy with the bread. I understand her feelings completely, in a way I wish all the “team” Gale people could see. It’s always been Peeta <3

I am team Gale through and through. Yes, the slightest thing may set him off, but ya learn to love him. He’s sweet and HOTT and doesn’t hide anything from Katniss, like when D12 was bombed. I loved him before I knew what he looked like, and will NEVER abandon him.

gale doesnt even like katniss for real he just thinks he does because everyone else thinks he does. for instance when my sister lost her tooth she didnt notice or care untill someone asked her if she was okay assuming she was hurt, then she cried like a baby. It says countless times in the books that gale is like an older brother to katniss, nothing else. if peeta hadnt set up the whole love story thing to keep them alive, gale would just be rooting for katniss to come home and when she did things would go back to normal, no romance. but since peeta did set up the romance deal with katniss, gale got all offensive. its pretty selfish actually. Another point is that gale cares more about the rebellion than katniss. katniss asked him to run away and he said yes, but then once he figured out that there was a chance of rebellion he changed his mind. Some of you might say oh well acctually in the first book he asked her to run away with him. damn right he did. at that point in the book he saw no hope of a rebellion suceeding. gales the kind of person that cant ever have enough. when the next best thing shows up he drops whatever he has, no hesitation. sure thats good to have some of that quality but he has too much. you need a balance. I think katniss knows this trait of gales at it makes it harder for her to choose peeta. she knows that if she chooses gale, and let peeta know that she really loves gale, he would accept it but still stick around and be her friend because he acctually truly cares for her. she knows that if she chooses peeta, gale will leave, even if it breaks her to pieces. if she doesnt devote herself to him, hes gone. most of the gale fans base thier argument on that he is hot and strong. same goes the majority of girls that i know, and you know what happens when they choose the guy based soley of appearance? the guy srews them over because they know they will always have a chance at the next best thing. screw gale and everything he stands for

Team gale 4 ever!!!
Peeta is soooooooo much better for her! At the end of the series, Gale is off in some other district not even thinking about how Katniss feels about the loss of her sister (which could very much be HIS fault!) Meanwhile Peeta, who’s been tortured by the Capitol and still cannot always separate real from not real, is planting Primroses to honor Katniss’s sister, even though Gale had known Primrose so much better and Peeta didn’t even know her. This to me says a lot about the two guys and it really should say something to everyone else. As Katniss says at the end of the story, Peeta brings “the promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses.” This is exactly what he does in the entire series and which explains why I felt so depressed reading the book when I thought Peeta had lost that way about him forever. Peeta is so gentle and caring and amazing and THAT is what Katniss can’t survive without. I really think Suzanne Collins did an amazing job with these books and definitely knew what she was doing when she chose Peeta for Katniss in the end.
Although I wasn’t sure who Katniss would pick, I always picked Peeta for her. They’re are the extraordinary typical complimentary couple. I don’t mean that as an insult but as sincere flattery.
As for me, I got the best of both worlds. My hubby has Gale’s intensity, independence and passion. He has Peeta’s sense of humor,wit and loyalty. Wait….that sounds more like FINNICK!

Ends up somewhat having to do with Peeta (NOT INCLUDING ANY SPOILERS), I kinda what Gale and Katniss. S:
At first, I was so disapointed when I finished Mockingjay and realised that Katniss would end up with Peeta. I had always viewed him as weak and a bit useless, also I noticed she had no passion when it came to Peeta other than keeping him alive. I also thought the see could be herself with Gale and that he was the only person who truely understood her. When I flicked through the books again, trying to understand, I finally realised that this was not the case. For starters, Katniss now assosiated Gale with the death of her sister, whether he meant for the bombs to go off or not, and she would never be able to seperate the two long enough to have a happy life with him. I also realised that Gale, though strong and eager to protect the ones he loves, is much more heartless than Kat and will stop at nothing to win the rebelion (like when he blew up the mine). Gale was not there for her at crucial moments, after Peeta attacked her he only breefly visited her, when she was shot he never even came to see her, after her sister died they only spoke once, etc. He was the driving force she needed when she had to take control and take care of her family after her father’s death, and a prime example of how to behave, but when SHE was weak and broken, he was not the one to provide protection from the cruel world, Peeta was. He was the only one that could comfort her, the only one she ever let comfort her since she couldn’t even let her mother do that, which leads me to believe there was something there the whole time. Peeta, though he hasn’t known her as long as Gale, understands the way she works just as well and only demands what she can give, unlike Gale who can be harsh if she does not live up to his expectations or coldhearted way of thinking, who doesn’t allow weakness. This is all highlighting the reasons I believe Katniss falls in love with Peeta instead of Gale at the end of the book since a lot of people can’t seem to understand why the author would make that choice. I don’t think I need to highlight that Peeta obviously loves Kat more than Gale does since this is apparent at the end of the last book when Gale takes up a job in Disrict 2 forgetting about her while Peeta has been waiting to be allowed to come back and see her. I do not judge the author’s desicion for Kat’s lover but I do wish there had been some type of closure in the epilogue since Gale is not heard of again. Even if she had said that they never spoke again. I feel like we can never truely analyse how Kat feels about her choice since he is not mentioned at the end. I might be wrong though, I could be that her not mentioning him states he is not important enough in her future to think about, though this seems unlikely since she clearly loves him in some way throughout the books. What do you all think about his absence in the epilogue?
