This month’s book club selection is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Yes, it’s the first in a series, but we think you’ll forgive us after you puzzle your way through this delightfully clever mystery. There’s a house full of riddles and clues (literally); a love triangle featuring two brothers equal in smolder; a smart and tenacious heroine; and a family closet crawling with skeletons.

Check out the discussion questions below! (We’ve been careful to avoid spoilers.)

P.S. If you’ve already read the book, feel free to add any other discussion questions of your own in the comments!

Icebreaker

Let’s take a page out of the book: Give one truth about your life and two lies, and then see if the group can decide which is which.

Are you Team Grayson or Team Jameson? (Or Team Neither?)

How did you feel about the development and/or arc of relationships in the book? Were there any relationships or characters you wish had been fleshed out more?

At one point, Grayson tells Avery, “The morality of an action depends, ultimately and only, on its outcomes.” Do you agree?

By the end of the book, which supporting character did you trust the most and why?

What was your favorite feature of Hawthorne House?

Do you plan on reading the sequel (if you haven’t already)?

Sarah lives in Austin, and believes there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, which is part of why she started FYA in 2009. Growing up, she thought she was a Mary Anne, but she's finally starting to accept the fact that she's actually a Kristy.
