I have been in love with this book since I was 10 and I keep falling in love over again, every time I re-read it. I have unapologetically seen the movie a million and a half times also. I always wanted to adopt Johnny as my brother, marry Soda and give Darry a really big hug to cheer him up a little! LOL I recently found out neither of my comrades at arms (hey yo, being a library page is a neverending BATTLE of epicness) had read this book. I have converted them both into Hinton fans. Muhahaha! *maniacal expression* I agree with Kyra H., Rumble Fish is beautiful. Plus Matt Dillon was in that film too! Rusty-James you can drink my momma’s beer anytime…even if I do wanna smack you sometimes!

I’m waaaaay behind the times on this, but I just thought I’d share my embarrassing love of The Outsiders. I also read this book when I was 12, and I was totally convinced that I would marry Ponyboy. Then I figured out that he wasn’t real, so this couldn’t happen, and I decided that I would marry the guy who played him in the movie! Great plan! Then I realized that the movie came out the year I was born, so that guy was totally a grownup, while I was only 12. So I decided that I would name my first son Ponyboy. Luckily, I am still childless, and even more luckily, I realized that this would be a terrible idea. Kudos to my 7th grade English teacher for having us read this book!

Don’t worry, Mere, I never knew S.E. Hinton was a woman either!! I just assumed Hinton was a man! All my life! Damn!

Yay, The Outsiders!! SUCH good required reading! I remember being a little kid, getting my hands on this book, and having MY MIND BLOWN. I can’t wait for my kid to get old enough for The Outsiders.

I’m a 7th grade English teacher and my students read this book. I have taught it now for 14 years and I STILL love it! It seems to just get better and better. It is the one book even my reluctant readers love!

As for the movie, I was so happy when they rereleased it with the deleted scenes put back in. A much better movie. Side note: I loved the actor that play Ponyboy – C. Thomas Howell – I had posters of him all over my bedroom. My students laugh when I tell them this.

i love this book! embarrassingly, i just read it about 1.5 yrs ago. when i did, i spent three weeks going around saying to everyone i met, “i can’t be-LIEVE i’d never read the outsiders before!” it is AWESOME. and now i have to see the movie (because, again in the spirit of embarrassing true confessions, i’ve never seen it. what?!?).

oh, and i just have a goodreads, too. i guess i’m an old lady? i have a librarything i never use, and i’ve heard all about shelfari but i’m tooooo lazy to invest the time to create a new account, since i’ve actually kept up with goodreads.
