it’s 2010, and even though i don’t have a teleporter in my basement and no robots to do my laundry/dishes/fix my breakfast — YET — there are still LOTS of things coming up to be excited about this year. let’s get out our crystal ball and take a look.
hunger games 3!!!!
OBVS, this is the most exciting thing about 2010 yet — at least for me. gotta wait until august 24, and although i have NO IDEA where it’s headed (but i gotta say katniss better have some things figured out and NOTHING BAD better happen to peeta!!!!). while you’re waiting, go back to jenny’s post and join in the speculation.
airhead, evernight and more continue
the third airhead book by meg cabot also comes out this year, on april 20! if you’re dying to see what happens with em, christopher and stark enterprises, check out this excerpt from meg cabot’s website (swoonworthy scale of the EXCERPT ALONE: totally an 8.5).
evernight by claudia gray continues with hourglass on march 10, and you can travel through TIME (see? now it feels like 2010) and read jenny’s review — written months ago! ok, ok, MAYBE she read an ARC. maybe. but i still like the idea of time travel.
for more release dates, check out YAthenium, a great book blog with a super date roundup most every week, as well as the publishers, including harperteen.com (where you can read a bunch of chapters of a book), random house, simon and schuster … and i’m out (any more suggestions??).
other predictions
vampires will totally still be in. any guesses on a new big thing? EVERYONE is saying angels (ok, a couple of blogs and anne rice), but so far only two books (well, 3 if you count the blue bloods series) fit that bill.
after twilight’s success, there’ll be zillions of ya books optioned as movies. michael cera will probably star in most of them. discuss.
cameron quick will come back!!!!
katniss will choose peeta (or i will!)
what do y’all see (or hope to see) happening in 2010??

EEEE, Runaway!! Em! Christopher! MAKING OUT! Thank you, slumber party attendee Meg Cabot!!!
God, I HOPE the vampire trend ends this year. I would like vampires to be replaced with cupcakes. I feel like we could do a lot with a cupcake-themed romance.
2010 YOU MAKE ME CRAY CRAY WITH EXCITEMENT!!!!
hunger games 3! new airhead! new ruby oliver! eclipse, aka another chance to see jacob’s abs! iron man 2! (i know that last one has nothing to do with YA but hello the hotness!)
i’m also hoping for:
* a new sarah dessen book
* less vamps
* more high school angst (i’m a glutton, y’all)
* updates on the king dork & hunger games movies
* a new mandy moore movie?!!! that doesn’t suck?! please?
Meghan, yay! 2010 is going to be awesome! And yay for ironman 2, too!
I’ve also heard that angels will be the Next Big Thing, and I read “Fallen,” my first teen paranormal romance featuring angels, a couple months ago (forgive the self-promotion): http://lyndalepress.wordpress.com/2009/11/22/fallen-for-fallen-what-to-read-after-twilight/
I’ve heard so much about The Hunger Games but haven’t gotten around to picking it up yet, though I think your post has finally pushed me over the edge. I’m planning on making a trip to the library… maybe even the bookstore… tomorrow.
anne, the bad news is that you’re about to spend the next 8 months obsessed with katniss, peeta and gale. the good news is that you won’t be alone, i.e. come back and keep us HG nerds company!
Posh – I finished The Hunger Games book 1 – ah! Yes, I’m obsessed. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one – and to have something to look forward to! It’s been awhile since I’ve been anxious for a particular book to come out.
anne, congrats on joining the cult that is hunger games fandom. GET THEE TO A LIBRARY so you can continue to feed yr addiction via “catching fire.”
and then join the rest of us in the waiting room for book three. it’s getting pretty crowded in here, which is actually a good thing cos THIS WAIT IS KILLING ME and at least we can distract ourselves by endlessly analyzing peeta, gale and katniss.
