okay, THANK YOU guys. i seriously felt like there was something i was missing while reading the lovely bones. and you're so right about the narrative, erin. there are so many times when i think the story is going to go somewhere really great, and then it totally fizzes out. there's a constant lack of fulfillment. i'm supposed to read it for a book club, so i just gave in and decided to google the rest of the plot. and for real, jenny, REALLY? was my thought exactly. plus, i keep imagining marky mark as the dad, and that's just weird, straight up.

i will definitely have to check out the girl with the dragon tattoo, because i totally trust my literary choices in your guys' hands.

okay, enough of this adult lit talk! i'm starting the hunger games asap, and i will report back.

oh, and jenny? gin and tonic? a woman after my own heart! that is precisely my drink of choice while reading!

nicky! welcome! enjoy the complimentary champers! and PUT THE LOVELY BONES DOWN! pick up the hunger games. you won't regret it AT ALL. trust us.

erin, i LOVE the girl with the dragon tattoo! and the sequel. i can't wait for the 3rd to come out. you're right -- the unhappiness seems way more believable. i read somewhere about swedish angst books and how it's in all the books that get translated to english, but whatevs -- i loved it. it and its angst.

I'd much rather grab a G&T and sit back with Katniss and Peeta... And GALE!!!

oh LORD, the lovely bones. Do not feel bad. I wanted to like that book. I REALLY TRIED to like that book. But in the end, it was just maudlin, treacly, and I think the narrative completely fell apart. Hunger Games is WAY better. (also no rape and murder, so)

Yeah, I HIGHLY recommend The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It is amazing. I was kinda turned off by it in the book stores and then my boyfriend told me how amazing it was and IT IS. I can't wait to read the sequel but at the same time I'm glad I'm giving myself a little breathing room! (It is also not a happy tale but, unlike The Lovely Bones, it's a more organic unhappiness. Or just more believable, i dunno.) you should definitely read it!

AFTER you read Hunger Games, cause you don't want Katniss to come bowhunt you down!

aww, thanks for the warm welcome! and don't worry, posh, it's totes legal if this were real life and you passed me a nice glass of champagne. which brings me to something: THANK YOU ladies, for providing a great blog for adult readers of ya lit. it's totally what i need when my friends sometimes talk about reading stuff like "crime and punishment" and the wall street journal and all i really want to do is escape into some good old fashioned teen angst. i have a couple of friends that also enjoy reading ya lit (i've totally turned them onto fya, btw, holla), which is great, but it's also super nice having all these places online for adults that i kind of didn't even know existed until pretty recently. fya is definitely my favorite nook in that world!

so katniss SLEEPS STRAPPED TO A TREE? seriously? this girl is badass. i can't even imagine what scenario, besides, like, being kidnapped and strapped to a tree against your will, would lead someone to SLEEPING STRAPPED TO A TREE, but i'm excited!

and the Boring Book is...and i hate to say this, but...the lovely bones. i've heard so many amazing things about it: "it changed my life," "reading that book is like a spiritual experience," or "it's awesome!" it is good, and there have been moments when i've been totally engrossed and moved to tears, but i'm having a really hard time reading it. it could be that it's winter and the story is so downright depressing, but mostly it's just because i'd rather be reading the hunger games.

oooh, erin, i've been thinking about reading the girl with the dragon tattoo. the cover gets me every time i see it at the bookstore. i'm like, ooooh, WHAT IS THIS GEM? and then i realize i've read the flap a million times but for some reason never buy it. did you like it? let me know how the sequel goes. or don't, since you, um, may or may not be reading it.

Nicky! Welcome! ALSO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Actually, can I inquire as to what the Boring Book is? I so have that problem too. It's not that books I read are boring! Anything but! But sometimes I see a fresh new book (usually a sequel) sitting there, all lovely and beautiful, and I know I have to finish reading 5 Sweet Valley High books before I can even look at it (not that I am in anyway referring to my current life and the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, of course).
