y’all. crafting in honor of yr fave book is nothing new — i’m sure girls in the old days gave their mothers fits by trying to brew up a little anne and diana blackberry cordial, and the march girls probably weren’t the first to make their own pickwick papers — but holy SHIZZ has it reached new heights (or depths) of CRAY with this twilight horror (and HP horror, sorry jkr). and i gotta say, i do admire the mad skillz of these crazy seamstresses and glue gun sharpshooters, but LADIES. use your powers for good, not evil!

so in honor of my favorite bit of my favorite cartoon animaniacs, here’s a little good idea, bad idea when it comes to showing yr undying love of ya (or rpatz).

good idea: steve mcqueen in cross-stitch

from epeolatry on etsy

from epeolatry on etsy

steve mcqueen was so COOL. he would totally destroy jacob in a motorcycle race, and is infinity x infinity cooler than edward. from epeolatry on etsy

bad idea: rpatz in cross-stitch

rpatz

(and not even edward rpatz — JUST PLAIN rpatz the dude. stalker, much?) worse idea? make it SPARKLE

good idea: jacob necklace.

jacob

if you absolutely MUST wear a character from twilight on your body (and pleeeeeze don’t make it a tattoo), you can’t go wrong with taylor lautner’s hot bare chest. (y’all know this isn’t exactly a great idea, but it’s better than most). from boo_zombie on craftster (y’all, this girl is a machine crankin’ out the twilight).

bad idea: edward’s eyes.

eyes

umm GROSS? i don’t care if the amber, black and red beads are just beads and not eyeballs, it is GROSS to wear jewelry that’s supposed to be someones EYES. when i look at the beads, all i see are eyeballs strung on wires. see? gross. and you guys? there are WAY too many of these necklaces/earrings/bracelets out there. from amigurumi4life on craftster.

good idea: amigurumi cupcake

cupcake

so cute! the only bad thing about them is you can’t eat them. from ktb designs on etsy.

bad idea: amigurumi edward cullen

Edward1

dude, this is even creepier than the eyeballs. from AprilDraven on craftster (man, this girl has skillz, too)

good idea: twilight pinata

pinata

who WOULDN’T love to bash edward’s and bella’s faces in with a baseball bat?? AND score delicious candy times after? from elwynceltic on craftster.

bad idea: i love twilight basket purse

basket

*twitch* i don’t know what’s worse, the ribbon, the ric-rac, the basket, the twilight logo, the basket, the rhinestone heart, the ric-rac …the seller also has one with the cullen crest. you know, if you want something a little more traditional. from LoveTaryn on etsy.

want more bad ideas? check out:

pins

these his-n-her pins from loveclay on etsy

pillowcase

and speaking of creepy-close relationships, anyone for a stalker pillow? etsy seller joanjen has ELEVEN rpatz pillowcases. into jacob? she has taylor lautner ones. want your own bf/creepy crush on a pillowcase? order a custom job.

so, i totally tried to find cool book-related crafts out there, but there was precious little. in fact, when i searched craftster and etsy for “hunger games”, “katniss” and “peeta” i got a big fat ZERO, but when i searched for “twilight” i got 29 PAGES of results on craftster and 765 pages on etsy. not 765 results, but 765 PAGES. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? GO READ HUNGER GAMES STAT!!! and maybe bring on some katniss craftness while you’re at it (sorry, couldn’t help myself).

katniss could kill you with that needle and thread

TWILIGHT PINATA WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL OF MY LIFE?!!!!

as for that pillowcase… i mean, if you’re gonna get that close to the edge, you might as well jump (JUMP!) and go totally crazycakes with it, a la jason segel’s pillowcase in “undeclared.”

dude I CANNOT BELIEVE NO ONE IS CRAFTING HG YET?!! WTF?!

meghan, you know this means that when you finally get the chance to cross-stitch that mockingjay, you’re gonna rake in the big bucks.

p.s. FYAers we really need team peeta t-shirts. puff paint anyone?!!

Okay, I think we really need to get on the HG crafting. For reals. It’s a gold mine! Plus, the imagery is so freakin’ cool!

I suppose you could always cross-stitch the RPatz with sparkle . . . thread? Yarn? I don’t know anything about cross-stitching, as it’s one of those things which require talent.

I would pay folding money for some mockingjay earrings. YOU HEAR THAT ETSY? Don’t let me down!!

Words cannot adequately display the level of barf in my throat for those His Lamb/Her Lion earrings. People of the world: if I see you wearing those earrings, I will punch you in the face. I realize that I will be arrested afterward, and that will suck for me, but you will still get punched in the face! So just think about that before you venture forth.

JENNY!!! that is cool. y’all, one mockingjay cross-stitch chart (for a bookmark, yo) coming up (in, like, 6 months or something. it takes me forever).
and srsly erin. maybe more than a punch in the face. maybe also a kick in the shins.
and DEFINITELY some puff-paint team peeta shirts, pd! although, while i was ALL ABOUT peeta for all of HG and most of CF, i’m a little conflicted now and might need a team gale shirt, too. you know, just in case.

also y’all, i think i’m about to have to take the craftzine blog out of my rss reader. first it sent me the awful rpatz xstitch, and today i opened the feed up to a project about making a picture frame, and the sample photo was …

RPATZ. as EDWARD. and the post said, “We used dreamy Edward Cullen from Twilight here, but you can use a photo of anyone you like.)” thanks. i will definitely be using someone else i like if i ever (like that’ll happen) make that project.

There are lots of HP knit patterns out there, along with yarn dyed in HP-related colorways.

Ravelry.com is a bountiful source of HP and Twilight-inspired knits. Crochets, too.

I’ll admit here that I spent about $200 on custom-dyed yarn in the Twilight colorway, including $87 for three hanks that are 2% real silver. Sparkles, you know? Yes, I knit Twilight and New Moon socks. I’ll use the sparkly yarn for a gorgeous shawl that I’ll never wear and may never finish. With silver-lined beads, even.

I know. I’m hopeless. And I love it.
